PASSPORT & VISA REGULATIONS:
No Visa is required for U.S. passport holders for a sty of up to three months. If you are not a U.S. passport holder, contact the Consulate regarding visa requirements.

TIPS:
For taxi rides, a ten percent tip is sufficient. For restaurants, a ten percent tip is customary:

SHOPPING AND SHIPPING:
Travelers will find a great variety of items in Spain- Ceramics, jewelry, suede and leather goods, designer clothing, shoes, fans, handicrafts, antiques, art objects, etc.

Most stores are open 9:30am-1:30pm, Monday-Saturday, and 4:30-8:00pm, Monday- Friday.
Many shops and all major department stores will ship goods tot he United States for a fee.

TAX AND TAX FREE SHOPPING:
A 7% Value Added Tax (VAT of IVA in Spain) is added to rates for all restaurants and hotel rooms. Service is not included. The VAT on services is not refundable.
A 16% VAT is added to rates on most consumer goods. You are entitled to a reimbursement of the 14% VAT that you pay on purchases as long as the purchases add up to no less than ($78USD) in the same store, the same day. You will submit your receipts to the Customs Officer at the VAT counter at the airport BEFORE leaving the Country.

To call from the United States, dial the International access code (011) followed by the country cod (34) and the phone number.
To call from Spain to the United States, dial the international access code (00) followed b the U.S. country code (1) and the phone number.

ELECTRICAL CURRENT:
220 VOLTS (50 CYCLES) Is commonly used in Spain. Two round prong plus are used in all outlets. STANDARD AMERICAN PLUS WILL NOT FIT INTO SPANISH OUTLETS. Adapters may be purchased.

TIME DIFFERENCES:
Standard time in Spain is six hours ahead of Eastern Standard (Winder) time in USA, except in the Canary Islands which are included in the GMT zone. Therefore they are five hours ahead of Eastern Standard time (winter)

SIGHTSEEING:
Standard Museum Hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00am to 7:00pm, and Sundays and holidays from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Museums are closed Mondays and on Public Holidays.

Nightlife:
In Spain is in a class of its own, particularly from Thursday to Sunday. Pubs, late haunts and discotheques normally stay open until 4 in the morning, and in major cities they stay open until dawn.

DRIVING IN SPAIN:
An international driver's license is officially required to drive in Spain and can be obtained at the AAA. Minimum driving age is 18

ACCOMMODATIONS:
There are some 15,000 hotels in Spain. From the most modest to the most expensive. Many are singular hotels housed in castles, palaces and stately homes. Hotels are inspected and rated by the government.

Paradores:The prospect of sleeping in a castle-or Renaissance mansion or medieval monastery- has long appealed to the travel fantasies of American Visitors to Spain.
